London Games Festival returns - 9 to 25 April 2024 

London Games Festival 2024

London’s ten-day citywide celebration of video games is back this spring. Visitors can check out a host of artworks and installations, new activity includes ‘Screen Play’ which looks at renewed crossovers between games and film & TV – plus the return of the LGF Fringe. Also, look out for the BAFTA Games Awards and Now Play This, Somerset House’s festival of experimental game design.

An excellent and eclectic list of artists headlining including Tirzah, Vashti Bunyan, Joe Armon-Jones, Jlin, Death Songbook: Paraorchestra with Brett Anderson & Charles Hazlewood, Lucy Rose, Lonnie Holley, Matana Roberts and Samara Joy, as well as multiple artists performing The Songs Of Joni Mitchell - all performing special sets "in the round".

Pearly Kings and Queens at Trafalgar Square

Join us on Trafalgar Square to celebrate everything brilliant about England and being English.  

Promising a feast of delights over six hours, there's an exciting main stage programme of traditional and contemporary acts, alongside family activities, roaming entertainers, quests,  market stalls and an English street food market.  You might even spot a dragon or two.

The first major UK exhibition to map the design evolution of the skateboard from the 1950s to today – a story of design, performance and communities progressing together. Around 90 rare and unique boards will go on display, alongside over 100 other objects, including hardware such as wheels and tucks, safety equipment, VHS tapes, DVDs, magazines and ephemera. Together they will show skateboard’s technical developments and its evolving social acceptance.

LIFT has been bringing global stories to London and transforming the city into a stage since 1981. This year's festival is full of bold and relevant culture, international perspectives, and thought-provoking performances, including Milan's legendary maker Chiara Bersani, takes over The Old Bailey’s grand hall with the monumental and poetic L’Animale.

Japan: Myths to Manga at Young V&A – until 8 September 2024

Take an exciting and atmospheric trip through Japanese history – and explore how landscape and folklore have influenced Japan's culture, technology and design.

As well as a series of workshops for all ages, there is over 150 exceptional objects and artwork from the15th century to today. From Hokusai to Sylvanian Families, Studio Ghibli, robots, fashion, film, photography and beyond, the exhibition takes young visitors on an atmospheric and playful journey revealing the influence of folklore and environment on Japan’s art and design.
