Young people have the solution to the mental health crisis

As part of We Are Lewisham, London Borough of Culture 2022 and Thriving Through Culture, the Mayor of London's culture team worked with The Albany on A Big Conversation. The project brought together four youth arts groups in Lewisham – Sounds Like Chaos, Heart N Soul, Lewisham Youth Theatre and Lewisham Music – to explore the question: how can culture and creativity support young people’s mental health and wellbeing?

Since 2017 there’s been a 60 per cent increase in children and young people experiencing mental health problems in England. We wanted to share the findings of the young people's research with partners from health and care services, connecting them to the youth arts sector.

Young people were supported with their research, and created podcasts and videos along the way. We interviewed one of the participants, Rofeda, about her journey through the programme - read the interview

Find out more about the four projects and their findings on the Albany's website.
