Just hours before Oscars are handed out at the 89th Academy Awards in Hollywood, join us for a free film screening of the Oscar-nominated “The Salesman” by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi in Trafalgar Square.
The Salesman tells the story of a young couple Emad and Rana who play the lead roles in a local rendition of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. Meanwhile, their personal relationship takes a hit after moving into a house that was previously inhabited by a woman who allegedly pursued a career in prostitution.
The Salesman has been nominated for the “best foreign-language film” and the winner will be announced that night at the Oscars in Los Angeles.
This free event is an opportunity for all Londoners to come together and celebrate London’s diversity demonstrating that London is open to creative talent as well as people from all countries and all communities.

3pm - Trafalgar Square opens for the event, turned into London’s biggest cinema
4pm - Introduction from the Mayor and video introduction from the film’s director Asghar Farhadi
4.25pm - Film starts
7pm - Event finishes
The film will last approximately 2 hours and will have English subtitles. Please arrive early, wrap up warm as the event will not be covered. Food and drink will be available to buy on the Square.
For those that want to cover the event, they can get passes by completing the media accreditation form.
- How do I get there?
Trafalgar Square is easily accessible by public transport. Check www.tfl.gov.uk for your best route. Please note there is no parking at the event.
- Is the event suitable for children?
Please be aware the film is classified 12A which means it contains material that is not generally suitable for children under 12. All under 12’s will need to be accompanied by an adult.
- Will there be food & drink available?
Yes, there will be a selection of street food concessions, including vegetarian options, plus licensed bars. Please be aware there are no ATMs at the event.
- Can I bring my own food & drink?
Yes, you can bring in small amount of food & drink for your own consumption, but please note glass will not be allowed on-site.
- Can I bring cushions or chairs?
This is a standing event and we do not recommend sitting on the floor. You are welcome to bring small foldable chairs, but please be advised you may be asked you fold them away to create space for others at the event if required. Please do not bring marquees, picnic tables or parasols.
- Can I reserve a space in advance?
We’re afraid access to the event is on a first come first served basis, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
- Can I bring my dog / pet?
Animals will not be allowed into the event, with the exception of assistance dogs. Guidance dog welfare area will be available next to the lift, on the upper North Terrace on the west side.
- What arrangements are there for those with accessibility requirements?
There is a wheelchair accessible lift on the north-west corner of Trafalgar Square. Event stewards will be available to assist wheelchair users travelling between upper (north terrace) and lower terrace levels of Trafalgar Square.
Wheelchair accessible public toilets are available on the lower terrace of Trafalgar Square. This is on the west side of the square to the left of the central staircase. These are open daily from 8am to 8pm.
Trafalgar Square’s cafe is wheelchair accessible, and has a low-level counter and induction loop. Free drinking water is available upon request in the cafe.
All staff and stewards will be briefed on disability awareness.
The wheelchair accessible viewing area will be on the North Terrace, at the top of the central staircase. Some seating will be available for companions in the wheelchair viewing area, and for those less able to stand. A hearing loop will be available in this area.

- Can I bring protest placards, flags or banners?
Please do not. The event is a celebration of film, culture and London, and is not a protest. You will not be allowed to bring placards, flags or banners into the event.
